ABOUT THE AUTHORDavid L. Rogers earned his PhD in English and American Literature from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, in 1990. After graduation he initially taught at the University of Sussex in Brighton, UK and at Goldsmiths College, London before moving to Kingston University, London in 1992. At Kingston University, he taught English and American Literature as well as Journalism, Creative Writing, Essay Writing and Composition. in 1997, he became Head of the Department of English. In 2003 he assumed the role of Head of the School of Humanities, serving until 2013, He also served as the Director of the Kingston Writing School between 2012-2017, when he retired from active teaching, management and administration. While Head of School Dr Rogers co-founded Kingston University Press and managed the development of a new MA in Publishing as well as an MA in Creative Writing and the first MFA in Creative Writing in the UK. As Director of Kingston Writing School Dr Rogers started the annual Athens Creative Writing Summer School in collaboration with the British Council office in Athens. The Summer School ran until 2017. Now Emeritus Senior Fellow at Kingston University, Dr. Rogers continues to help the MA in Publishing team and students to discover manuscripts for their annual round of publication. Dr Rogers remains grateful to students on the MA course for their excellent editorial support of the first edition of Writing Better Essays, published by KUP, on which the current second international edition is based.
