Ines D. Holmes (b. 1980) is a UK-based German writer, and author of the ‘Magical Tales from Fairyland’ series. From an early age, Holmes discovered her love for books and her desire to put pen to paper herself: “I must have been about 12 years old when I told my German language teacher that I would be writing a book. It took me almost another 30 years before I actually finished one, but for me it was worth the wait and has given me the confidence to continue.”After completing an apprenticeship as Marketing Assistant, she followed her love for literature and the English language and read English Studies and Media & Communication Sciences at Heinrich-Heine University in Düsseldorf, Germany. To improve her English language skills and cover a broader spectrum of English literature from different cultures, she spent a year in Perth, Australia, reading English Literature at Murdoch University. To complete her English language education, Holmes also completed a course as Foreign Language Correspondent and holds a M.A. degree in Translation Studies from the University of Portsmouth, UK. She likes literature with a strong female voice, but as a genre, fantasy and the fantastic have been most captivating for her. The idea for ‘Magical Tales from Fairyland’ sparked from living in Wiltshire, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. “There are just so many hidden paths, enchanted forests and magical sunrises /sunsets here, that my imagination can run wild. I can see the little fairy folk hiding in a moss-overgrown tree stump or fluttering about with a multitude of butterflies in the garden. It’s truly magical.”Previously working for an international consultancy firm, Holmes has now decided to dedicate her time fully to writing and raising her daughter. Despite being a German native speaker, Holmes prefers to write in English and then translates the finished work into German.
