Linda Wentworth Barnes spent her first seventeen years in Brattleboro, Vermont. She received a B.A. in Computer Science and French from Asbury College and a Magistere de Langue et de Civilisation Francaise from La Sorbonne in Paris. While in France, Asbury College invited her to fill a one-year French teaching position at their institution, after which she married Rev. Robert W. Barnes. They have ministered at six United Methodist churches in their 30+ years of marriage. Her church leadership positions have included being a youth director, an adult Sunday School teacher, a Vacation Bible School director, a choir director, a worship leader, a retreat coordinator, a Mission Committee Chair, and a mission team leader. Her particular insight into the realms of pride and humility may come from being in the position of pastor's wife for over three decades, which has allowed her to enter into the lives of the people at church in a very personal way. She came to realize that pride is present in every individual (including herself) and interferes in one's relationship with God and one's relationships with people. To prepare to write this 12-week study, she read through the entire Bible with pride and humility in mind, in order to find verses, passages and stories that might not be the obvious examples or the best-known incidences. she also read 23 books, in order to find helpful quotes from Christians down through the ages.Read more about this authorRead less about this author
