H.S. Winter lives in the Finnish countryside, where the uneventfulness of the surroundings and everyday life makes her want to think of what lies beneath. She has a Master’s degree in Animal Ecology, and her former career comprised of working out the delicate balance between exploiting natural resources for economical profit or recreational use, and protecting them. Her stories are inspired by thoughts on the meaning of life, an enhanced future for humanity, and finding the one.They say that loneliness is perhaps the biggest challenge of our world. Even when people are surrounded by other people, the connection between two souls is often missing. As I’m writing the Winter series and plotting new ones, I already see that my main characters feel left outside the community, drifting in a world of their own. But despite heartbreak and challenges, they keep searching for meaning and connection to something bigger.Plotting my Winter Heart series, it wasn't my intention to focus so much on the love story between the main characters. But Sini's love for the beautiful stranger refused to be dimmed down even if I didn't understand the very independent young woman's obsession with him. My protagonist might be a strong woman, but still, she longs for the one. She wants to find the one who understands her and whose loyalty goes beyond the mundane.The resilient female heroines in my stories all strive towards saving the world, one way or the other. A question that frequently crosses my mind is whether the world is already perfect—and everything that happens is supposed to happen—or whether it needs saving. Despite being a true introvert myself, I feel the need to reach out and connect with people. Together, I want to explore what a better world for all might look like.
