Author Name
Deborah M. Foster (Author)
Married, former professor, PhD from the University of Michigan, cat lover. Honestly, my book is my bio, so I don't want to give anything away. But I do want to explain why I released the book on Valentine's Day. The story didn't make it into the book, but back in the day, on Valentine's Day, we had an exchange at school. No one was required to bring Valentine's for everyone in the class. Social class made a huge difference in whether or not other students decided to give you a Valentine. When everyone was done distributing their choices to our paper bags hung on our desks, I'd look in the almost empty bag. Some students' parents were thoughtful and made them for everyone in the class. But you could tell you had gotten the most lukewarm Valentine in the collection. It was all an exercise in telling you no one loved you. I think they do this differently, if they do it at all, nowadays. Does anyone remember this from childhood?Read more about this authorRead less about this author

A deeply vulnerable memoir about the life of Deborah Foster and her family, the hardships they endured, and their link to extreme poverty. Deborah is exploring common misconceptions about the causes and effects of poverty in American society through the lens of her own personal experiences.

Inspired by an offensive characterization of poverty by eugenist Charles Murray, Deborah sets out to examine the flaws in Murray's argument using her own life as extended evidence of his errors in thinking. If Murray asks, "What's So Bad About Being Poor?" then Deborah is prepared to answer with many firsthand examples.
