I am Dr. Evelyn Hill. I was raised in Kansas City, Missouri, however, I have lived in Kansas City, Kansas for the majority of my adult life. I have had the pleasure of serving on the Board of Education of the Kansas City Kansas Public Schools for almost 10 years. I have seen firsthand the devastation of children/teenagers who had been abused, sold, kicked out of homes and shelters, and left on the streets. I have also seen family members and friends who have suffered from sexual assault and abuse. I felt led to leave a large corporation and began a journey in faith-based not-for-profit organizations so that I could work directly with individuals in need. Over the last several years I have worked for the Salvation Army, City Vision Ministries, Habitat for Humanity and Avenue of Life. During my tenure at Avenue of Life, we formed the Justice and Equity Coalition which allows the community partners to work together to find solutions in areas of injustice and inequity such as unfair housing practices, health care, unemployment, sexual assault, profiling and more. The Grace Ove Rape book is a refuge for hope and help. So many who suffer from sexual assault are re-victimized by loved ones and on-lookers. Often, they get accused of causing the violence that they were subjected to. They often keep the offense a secret. The trauma they have faced has hindered them from seeking help. Many suffer from embarrassment, shame, isolation and depression. This book allows them the freedom to leave the valley of victimhood and sore to the mountain top of victor and overcomer.
