Driven by a lifelong passion to challenge herself with new and diverse experiences, Debbie Barnett embodies an entrepreneurial spirit that has led her to establish several successful businesses in her career. Unwilling to settle into a quiet retirement, Debbie is still at work today pursuing her passions as a part time Realtor, Mah Jongg Instructor, and writer in south Florida. Debbie has just completed her second book, Innocence Unraveled, a memoir which reveals her life growing up in the 1960s and '70s. Darkly comedic and downright harrowing she tells her story about a young woman whose resilience let to her survival in an unkind world. Debbie's first book, Unlocking the Secrets of American Mah Jongg, a comprehensive guide on how to play American Mah Jongg, a book inspired by her lifelong love of the game. The book is perfect for beginner players and, is a great teaching tool for the Instructor. As a child she watched her mother play both at home and at the Colony Beach and Tennis Club where she eventually learned the game. By the time she was in her late twenties she was already an avid player and taught many of her peers to play.In 1988, Debbie moved to South Florida where she began Mah Jongg groups so she could meet and continue to play with and get to know other players. In 2006, she decided to spread her passion for the game through teaching. She has since taught hundreds of students locally and at various venues including a program for Leisure Time Tours held at the Boca Raton Resort & Spa. Debbie's first ever virtual classroom opened up its doors in January of 2020. The live, interactive School of American Mah Jongg offers classes of all levels to those that want to learn one of the most challenging games out there today.
