Anthony Pierlioni is an author of five books and journal articles in four languages. He is a turtle conservationist whose work is known internationally. Anthony is Vice President of theTurtleRoom, an international nonprofit organization with in-situ conservation programs in the United States, Africa, and Vietnam, educational programming, and ex-situ captive breeding efforts for endangered turtle species. Anthony and his organization work to educate the public about the plight of turtles and he travels the country providing free talks on the subject. His ex-situ captive management programs have produced some of the world's rarest species, acting as a last hope against true extinction for species that are already extinct in the wild. His published articles can be found in Reptiles Magazine (USA), The Batagur (USA), Radiata Journal, (Germany), Testudo (Italy), and Trionyx (The Netherlands). His first book, Black-Breasted Leaf Turtles – The Natural History, Captive Care, and Breeding of Geoemyda spengleri and Geoemyda japonica, was published by LIVING ART publishing in 2016. The book that Anthony wrote with his wife, Shannon, called Turtley Devoted to You, was published in 2024. It focuses on turtles, the people who love them, and the people who love them. Anthony's professional career began in social work, which provided training he would use greatly in later career change to veterinary medicine. He has managed several veterinary practices, including large specialty and emergency animal hospitals. His most popular book, Veterinary Leadership Through Fresh Eyes – A Social Worker’s Approach to Veterinary Management, was published in 2023. Anthony specializes in communication skills and developing and facilitating instructor-led trainings, which he does for the world’s largest veterinary company. He travels the country leading seminars, facilitating workshops, and supporting aspiring public speakers in the veterinary field.Anthony has two books that are complete and will be published coming this year. The first, The Great American Turtle Chase, details his trip across the United States with two of his best friends, from North Florida to Los Angeles in only eight days. The team encountered dozens of reptile species, including turtles, during the grueling adventure. The other book, Turtle Preservation - The Ultimate Guide to Keeping and Breeding Freshwater Turtles, will be released in the coming months. It was written by Anthony and his long time hero, Russ Gurley. Anthony was named the 2017 Editor’s Choice for Chelonia Personality of the Year by the Reptile Report. He co-created and hosts the Pondcast, the second longest running reptile podcast in the world and first ever turtle show.
