It has been a challenge learning how to live again since I lost my wife to a Pulmonary Embolism. I found myself turning to chat with her many times for the first few months, and realizing again she was no longer there. It never really goes away, you only get better at dealing with it. I miss her and think about her every day. I was born in Louisville, Ky. In 1966 and had a somewhat turbulent childhood. Despite that my parents were both very loving towards my brothers and I. There were three of us and we had a half sister through our mother which we eventually found. Unfortunately we lost her to cancer in 2022. Our parents were divorced in 1973, but despite that we still had some times that I can only describe as profound moments of happiness. So all was not bleak. My grandmothers were both good cooks and one owned a building in downtown Louisville on Market Street and had a restaurant on the ground floor called “Delta’s. No one seems to remember whether it was “Delta’s Place” or “Delta’s Grill.” This was around 1967-1972. In either case she made pies like it was no ones business and I used to sit in her restaurant and watch her make pies and cook, and I and my brothers would eat little packs of “Lance” Duplex Cookies from a little rack she kept on the counter. I managed to pull a coffee percolator down on myself in our apartment which was on the 4th floor, and was burned 50% of my body 2nd and 3rd degree burns, and thankfully didn’t die, but thats another story. I can thank the Kosair Crippled Children’s Hospital and their burn clinic who cared for me for many years to follow. After this is when the story of my life became much more complicated. By 1973 my parents were divorced and we still stayed in a home we moved to after Market street in a part of Louisville in Okolona and on the edge of Buechel near the giant G.E. Plant which my father worked at for a while. After they divorced he left Louisville because of the strife between he and my mother, and there were other influences in that as well. He went to California and almost bumped into Chuck Connors and ended up in two movies and would have been in more, and maybe actually with lines, but he was forced to leave and come back to Louisville to rescue his sons after our mother had gotten quarantined, because she had contracted Hepatitis on a camping trip. 1974 was the year, and after that I can only compare my life to a cross between “Forest Gump” and “Jack London.” Read more about this authorRead less about this author
