Born 1947, Frischauf, is a neuro-psychiatrist and poet who grew up on the Upper West side of Manhattan as a child of refugees from Nazi Austria. Her father’s mother and aunt were shot into a pit outside Riga, Latvia. Her mother, a psychoanalyst in the midst of training, arrived in Baltimore, expecting she could extricate her mother. Eventually, as her mother, aunt and uncle- in -law were about to be deported to a concentration camp, they chose to commit suicide together. But with fierce determination and hope her parents stuck a small stake into the new land.
