THE VIRTUOUS WOMAN REVISITEDThe virtuous woman is a very popular concept in the Bible found in Proverbs 31:10-31. Interestingly, it was taught by a woman to her son who is a king.

Many have ignorantly used this concept to foster some traditional beliefs and concepts that placed heavy restrictions on women in terms of personal development and empowerment, relegating the concept of virtuous womanhood to domestic skills of being able to care for the home, raise children and take care of the husband. People who tend to frown against the idea are seen as taking undue advantage of civilization and modernization.

They therefore insist that a virtuous woman must remain bound by the societal stereotypes which have been for a very long time. However, a careful explanation of the scriptures in Proverbs 31 will reveal to us how those stereotypes do not have a standing with the word of God and according to the scriptures virtuous womanhood transcends greatly domestic responsibility.

There have been a lot of wonderful books written about the virtuous woman and virtuous womanhood, however not many of them have set out to address the issue of stereotypes and traditional virtues unnecessarily required for the woman to be seen as a virtuous woman.
