Years of jobs -- including being busboy, waiter, lifeguard, bartender, insurance salesman & investment advisor -- confirmed that I am here to help others. That realization, and the guidance of a dear friend, caused me to go to law school. As a new lawyer, I spent time doing legal research. Upon request, I prepared documents for transactions. And I had the opportunity to litigate. Much of what I did I enjoyed. Some of it, I did not. Over time, my practice transformed to one that was guiding and transactional. I enjoyed completing real estate and commercial transactions. I liked the opportunity to interact with others involved, including brokers, developers, lenders, and elected officials. I was happy to see the results of my work, including projects completed in the community in which I live, such as substantial buildings, and even a professional baseball stadium.Throughout my career, I was asked to assist with estate planning, in some part because I became married shortly following graduation from law school. So, estate planning became a focus of my practice early on and it has only grown. As life went on, I enjoyed a number of wonderful experiences and suffered some devastating ones too. My children were born. We loved them and the relationships that arose because of them. We also experienced some setbacks, including divorces by friends & family, and the deaths of loved ones. After I began practicing, I quickly came to realize something that I did not fully appreciate before I went to law school, which is that attorneys can either fix problems or try to prevent them in the first place. Preparing for issues that might arise and preventing problems always seemed to be the better course of action, if it could be undertaken. My appreciation increased continually with regard to the importance of planning ahead and trying to be ready to deal with problems should they arise, rather than reacting to them after they reared their ugly heads. This book is the result of decades of experience. It is intended to provide information that is easy to understand and that will help you identify the questions to be asked and how to answer them, so that you do can do the estate planning necessary to protect you, and the ones whom you love, at any stage in your life. Planning today can save time, preserve wealth, and avoid pain & suffering in the future. Act now -- you will feel so much better today, and your future self & your family will thank you for it.Read more about this authorRead less about this author
