A twist of fate brings private investigator Napoleon Khoric, his wife, retired FBI Special Agent Cassandra Ebberhardt, and six teenage boys together in a dangerous game of cat and mouse, in the remote wilderness of northern Minnesota. A CIA operative, Lance Hawk, is missing and in possession of an energy chip, a battery-like component the Russians claim to have removed from an alien spacecraft ten years ago.

James, draws Napoleon and Cassie to Perry Cove, Minnesota. Hawk has gone into hiding on the Chippewa Indian Reservation where he was born and raised, and with the help of his brother Samuel and the Six Pack Club, they make plans to get Lance back to Langley.

Despite several failed attempts by the Russians to obtain the chip, a tribal deputy is killed in an ambush, Susan and Cassie are kidnapped, drawing the local tribal police into the mix. After a heated confrontation, the last Russians are taken down on the reservation and Susan and Cassie are rescued.

Only one is left to pursue, General Andre Yukiman who is now in possession of the energy chip. In a daring escape, Napoleon and Samuel pursue Yukiman downriver to a trap that leads to Yukiman's death and, to the regret of Lance Hawk, the loss of the energy chip.
