Author Name
Aimilia Emmanouil (Author)
Aimilia Emmanouil was born in Sparta (Greece) and currently lives in Athens. Having received a classical Greek education and being fascinated by the ancient Greek culture, her writing explores the application of classical values to a modern world. She studied Political Science at the University of Athens and International Commerce and Marketing in Italy (University of Padua). She has a Master’s degree in Cultural Policy, Management and Communication and completed her studies in Performing and Visual Arts in both Greece and Italy. She is a member of Greek Playwrights society. The foundation for her creative work is her formal education but also her love for philosophy, theatre and the arts. She writes stories and theatre plays for children whose main scope is personal growth and humanitarian emancipation through the promotion of active citizenship, economics-environmental education and arts education. Children enjoy literature and at the same time they learn in a fun and easy way.She started her professional writing career as a journalist and a translator of world literature and begun writing literature during the economic crisis, which is something that created turmoil in Europe and the entire world. It was during that period that she realized that we sometimes have to look into the past in order to find inspiration for the future. The challenges and crisis of our era undermine people’s need for happiness. The ancient Greek society was a pioneering one in the sense that it placed the human being and one’s happiness in its core center. From this perspective, children’s and young people’s education was of utmost importance. Children in Athens were prompted to come into contact with the ideas of philosophers, playwrights and other prominent personalities who stressed the importance of virtuous behavior. This model of education which cultivated ethos based on virtue and justice, had a positive effect on their well-being but also on the well-being of their fellow citizens and their city. This realization opened up a new horizon and scope of life for Aimilia Emmanouil. Thus, she wrote her fist children’s story entitled Unhappyland against Happyland. In 2016 she was awarded by the Women’s Literary Team for the theatre play “the king of flowers”. The award provided her with extra motivation and drive to focus primarily on her writing career. Following this she wrote the series “Mikropolis” dealing with citizenship (published by the Greek publishing house Kedros) and the series “little magicians of economics” for a new sustainable economy. She has collaborated with many organizations in Greece and worldwide in the design and implementation of children-youth cultural-educational programs. She applied the method “Learning through art” during her experience as a museum educator in the Museum of Greek children’s art in Athens it being one of the few in the world that exhibit children’s art.Publishing in Amazon in an exciting way to experience freedom in creativity and connect to a worldwide community.Read more about this authorRead less about this author

Nature and Ecology in Greek MythologyDid you know that the first known myth addressing ecological consciousness is Greek and was written in 300 BCE?This constitutes proof that the concept of environmental protection has been a concern of humanity since ancient times. The story of The Sacred Grove of Goddess Demeter is more than a story.

Full of ancient wisdom it not only instills respect for nature but it also fosters virtuous behavior, because as ancient Greeks believed, only a virtuous person can make oneself happy and the city a happy place. Prince Erysichthon whose name means the one who injures mother earth, wishes to build a big palace by destroying the trees of an old sacred grove dedicated to goddess Demeter.

What will the consequences of his arrogance known in the ancient world as “hubris” be, and what challenges is he going to be facing? This picture book full of high quality illustrations presents the Greek myth and offers additional information about the ideas of the book and the ancient classical values, something that is said to be able to lead one to a happier life. At the end children can add their own touch to the book by drawing the main characters and events of the story.

This book is ideal for elementary school children but can also attract adults and educators whose wish is to delve into the ancient Greek culture. Wisdom and knowledge for a better life! The story of Erysichthon and the sacred grove of goddess Demeter depicts the way in which the damage we impose on the environment eventually brings about an adverse effect on the quality of our own life.
