A forgotten place from a forgotten time, this contract shall test them all. After the events of the Irondell Plague, Angela Dragos is back at doing what she does best, with her partner Jacob Tepes finally recovering from the wounds he'd sustained.

But now a new contract has come to the Black Hand, one whose offer comes not from counts or chiefs, but of two runaway children. When it becomes apparent that the Empire seeks them, they ask to be taken to a lost Nisthgúlian village high in the mountains to spread their mother's ashes.

Angela and Jacob are accompanied by two other Black Hand Hunters, both of which despise the Dhampir for what she is and seeks to find out if she had bewitched the still young Jacob Tepes. Their long and perilous journey will test not only their trust in one another, but also their very strength to battle the evil forces lurking hidden in the mountains; a force in which will push Angela Dragos to her limit.
