Three hundred years ago, the world as we knew it collapsed. A horrendous pandemic threatened to obliterate the human race.

Eventually, life behind the Barrier reverted back to the Dark Ages – while the unaffected world advanced further in its technological development. A young amateur inventor from the medieval area, Peter Matthieu accepts his friends’ dare to cross the Barrier.

Miraculously, he succeeds - but now he's struggling to navigate this new world of high science so far removed from his own bucolic existence. Confronted with these new challenges, Peter makes a new friend.

Originally a scion of the highest caste of the Er-lans – the genetically modified elite of this new world – Hemiface was banished from his clan to lead a humble existence as a Barrier guard. Now he’s helping Peter to learn the ropes of his new environment.
