Saint Herman is one of the most well-known and venerated Elders among Orthodox Christians in North America. He was an 18th-century Russian missionary, who traveled with other monks in 1793 to bring the Gospel to the native Aleuts in America and dedicated his whole life to this holy mission.

This book takes you on a journey with Saint Herman, a hero of faith who left his home in Russia to bring love and hope to the people in faraway Alaska. 🛶❄️He preached the love of Christ to the Aleutians and drew many to the Church through his life, caring for their orphans, building them a school, and frequently defending them from the injustices and exploitation of the Russian traders.

He lived most of his life as the sole resident of Spruce Island, a tiny island near Kodiak Island. He showed us how to be brave, caring, and always have faith, no matter what.

He lived there in holiness until 1837 when he died in peace. He was glorified in 1970, a wonderworker before death and after, a true light and North Star guiding the Orthodox in the new land he had made his home.

From living alone on a snowy island to making miracles happen, Saint Herman's life was full of exciting adventures. This book shares his stories in a fun way, showing us how we can also be kind, brave, and faithful friends to everyone around us.
