I'm a native of NYC street life, prison life, drug, alcohol addiction. I grew up, child of the street, no father, mom positive single parent, disciplined me best she could. I was rebellious, driven by anger. Age 12 committed to NYS Psychiatric Hospital, suggestion of social workers. Mom truly did her best, forced to work, left me under brothers supervision, a few years older than I.2nd grade a teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said, “a child psychologist” she nodded her head, said “Your Cant” I asked why, she replied, because you have to read a lot. I said, OK. What I know now about psychology, childhood impressions, I see her opinion planted a seed in my subconscious mind, led to decades, limiting beliefs, insecurities in my life.Result, I always sought jobs cleaning, physical labor. Intimidated by academic environments. I felt safe as a janitor, laborer. As I wrote User Manual for Your Mind, her memory began to haunt me as I wrote a chapter, Childhood Impressions. September 28th, 1988, 8:30 PM, I used drugs alcohol, cigarettes for the last time. I remain drug nicotine, alcohol free. I've never returned to prison, I'm gainfully employed.
