Janet, a native of Birmingham, Alabama, grew up in the deep South. From the tender age of eight, she knew she wanted to write stories. She fondly recalls asking her father if he would publish a book for her if she ever wrote one. Thrilled by his agreement, especially since she was only in the third grade, Janet's passion for writing was solidified.Tragically, her father passed away in 2001 when Janet was just 19 years old, and he was only 43. Seeking a fresh start, Janet moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, vowing to fulfill her dream of becoming a renowned author.In 2016, Janet and her now-husband, Seth, left Chattanooga to embark on a life-changing nomadic journey. With nothing but the items strapped to their backs, they hit the road. Over the first year, they became well-known travelers, hitchhiking through 22 states. During their travels, they stopped in Texas to adopt their little companion, Banjo Dooby, a rat terrier/yorkie mix.Once they reached the West Coast, there was no turning back. They settled into a rhythm, spending winters in San Diego and traveling up the coast during the warmer months to San Francisco and Oregon, then back down again. In the spring of 2019, Janet and Seth rode their bicycles from San Diego to San Francisco and back, taking a minor detour inland on the Empire Trail into San Bernardino County. The entire trip totaled over 1,800 miles. Janet swears she will never do anything that extreme again, humorously noting that she is more of a downhill kind of girl, recalling the many mountains she had to push her bicycle up. Their little dog, Banjo, accompanied them, riding in a bag that Janet carried.2020 marked the end of their travels. They reminisce about how, just two days after leaving San Diego, the entire world shut down due to COVID-19. Janet reflects on this period as a significant chapter in their lives. It sounds like Janet had an incredible year on the road with Seth and Banjo Dooby! Their journey seems filled with adventure and a sense of freedom, especially during such a unique time. Settling in Seaside, Oregon, must be a beautiful change of pace, and it's wonderful that Janet is now able to focus on her writing and studies.
