I must confess that when I started this study on heaven, I was expecting, and even looking forward, to seeing what heaven was going to be like when we got there. In other words, this is speaking of the heaven of the future.

But heaven isn't just a future time and place. It is a present time and place.

In fact, the primary definition of the word "heaven" is more about a direction than a time. Heaven is a reference to that which is lofty, higher, above, the sky.

There are around five hundred references to heaven in the Bible. Of course, many references are about looking forward to heaven in eternity future.

But, many deal with heaven right now. Some of these chapter headings are: The Creation of Heaven, The Ladder to Heaven, the Gate of Heaven, The Throne in Heaven, His Holy Heaven, Looking Down from Heaven.

The Heavens are the LORD's, What to do Under Heaven, and The Wonders of Heaven. Some of the future references are: The Reward in Heaven, Treasures in Heaven, The Mysteries of Heaven, The New Heaven, and Coming Down out of Heaven.

These are just a few of the references to heaven in the Bible. I hope that this study whets your taste for heaven.
