Author Name
Taylen Calder (Author)
Taylen Calder is a former child protection manager and chair of a small charity working within a rural community in East Africa. Writing under a pseudonym, Taylen explains, “When writing, I draw upon real life experiences that bring, to my mind, situations and characters to life. Writing anonymously gives me a greater licence to draw upon those people and events whilst ensuring the work remains a piece of realistic and satisfying fiction.” ‘Forces at Work’ is Taylen’s second novel but the first to be published with the earlier work, ‘The Lighthouse Project’ set in East Africa, is now also available. ‘Forces at Work’ will be of particular interest to social workers and foster carers as it explores many contemporary social themes and dilemmas faced by workers and carers in the course of their duties, but widely accessible to the wider reading community given its urban thriller themes and turbulent, disturbing conclusion.November 2019 saw the publication of 'No Place for Sion?' which, although a stand alone novel, explores events after the 'Forces at Work' and follows the emotional journey of many of the characters as they struggle to find somewhere to call 'home'. A journey that ends in tragedy for some.June 2020 welcomed the third addition to the Moorton Community novels, Scorpion, in which secrets are exposed and true natures revealed, guiding some to safety but others into darkness as fraud, deception and treachery threaten Clynton’s very existence.October 2022 saw recurring characters from Moorton start afresh as private investigators in the Moorton Detective Agency, but nothing prepared them for their first client, the plain-spoken and often tactless widow Elsie Cairns who was desperate to trace her missing adult son Miles who disappeared, seemingly without explanation, while walking home late one night. As a ruinous conspiracy threatened to engulf the entire town, the partners were drawn into an increasingly intriguing and deadly mystery as the new agency's fractious members struggled to unite as a team. The beginning of 2021 saw the release of the long awaiting first novel in the Progeny Succession trilogy, Progeny Descending. Set in the world of big business the novel chronicles the fortunes of the Soloman dynasty and the story arc concluded in Progeny Rising. A third book in the series, Progeny Bloodline is set for release in 2023.Taylen notes in his works he doesn't want to take the reader on a voyage of discovery where mystical orbs are found, nor heroes and heroines are born saving the planet, rather wanting the reader to close each book with a sense of satisfaction having journeyed with often flawed but real characters in a real world.Taylen spends time living between homes in the north of England and East Africa, which provides a tranquil setting for writing from a eco-house that rests thousands of feet up nestled into a mountainside looking down on a valley of rolling hills clustered with traditional African dwellings. For advance notice of future publications join the mailing list at http://taylencalder.comRead more about this authorRead less about this author
