Author Name
Katy Munger (Author)
Katy Munger is a North Carolina-based writer who has published 16 crime fiction novels since her debut novel in 1991. She is also a founding member of Tart Noir, won the American Crime Writers League's 2002 award for excellence in mystery reviewing for her work as a crime fiction reviewer for the Washington Post, and is a co-founder of Thalia Press as well as the Thalia Press Author’s Co-op. Publishers of her work have included Donald I. Fine (now William Morrow), Random House, Ballantine Books, Avon Books, and Severn House. Her books have been published in the US, UK, Germany, Japan, and Russia. All of her series feature rich characterizations and fast-paced plots while honoring the conventions of crime fiction, but each of her series is slightly different in tone as follows:The Hubbert & Lil mystery series is a gently-humorous cozy series featuring 86-year old Auntie Lil and her buttoned down 50-something nephew, T.S. Hubbert. The tone is warm and the books themselves would be rated G on the movie ratings scale. The humor is reminiscent of P.G. Wodehouse and the late Charlotte MacLeod. The Casey Jones mysteries are contemporary and feature a strong female PI (who does not take herself too seriously) along with a cast of supporting characters representing the many types of cultures and individuals that make up the modern American South. They are set in the Triangle area of North Carolina. While primarily humorous in tone, all of the books include a deeper emotional component to the plot and have been praised for their depth. The books in this series would be rated PG-13 on the movie ratings scale. According to author Janet Evanovich, "Casey Jones joins the ranks of smart and gutsy heroines. The South will never be the same. Don't miss her."The Dead Detective series is based on police procedural but includes a strong paranormal component as well as many elements of a traditional thriller. This series examines many of the deeper questions about life, especially the battle between Good and Evil, and has been praised for its insight and the inspirational aspects of its plots. Because of its deeper content and sometimes dark themes, it would likely be rated PG on the movie ratings scale.Books By Katy Munger:Hubbert & Lil Mystery Series • Hubbert & Lil: Partners In Crime • A Cast Of Killers• Death Of A Dream Maker• Motive For Murder Casey Jones PI Series• Legwork • Out of Time• Money to Burn• Bad to the Bone• Better Off Dead• Bad Moon on the Rise• Fire and RainThe Dead Detective Mystery Series• The First Good-bye (originally titled Desolate Angel)• The Innocence Killer (originally titled Angel Interrupted)• A Dance With Darkness (originally titled Angel of Darkness)• A Walk Among Souls (originally titled Angel Among Us)Beat Slay Love by Thalia Filbert: A Group NovelAnd when she's not writing..Katy lives in North Carolina on the unofficial three-acre animal sanctuary she calls home—along with a Great Pyrenees and Papillon (both rescues), nine feral cats, four possums, six raccoons, a grey fox, a pair of nesting eagles and several hawk families, 3,267 rabbits, and too many songbirds to count. She spends a lot of her free time socializing with a wide variety of friends (all the while taking mental notes for her books) as well as cooking Southern, Thai, Indian, and Mexican food; listening to live music; dancing; reading; painting and collage; and her favorite zen activity of all: listening to audiobooks while putting together jigsaw puzzles.
