Byron D. Brooks (MoSoul) of Detroit, Michigan, is a passionate activist and advocate for social justice. With a deep commitment to dismantling inequitable systems and serving the least of these in society, Byron embodies the spirit of activism and resistance in the face of political injustice.Born during his mother's incarceration and raised by his great-grandparents, Byron has overcome adverse circumstances to become a trailblazer and change agent. He is the first in his immediate family to not only earn a college degree but also an advanced degree—a Master of Arts from The University of Michigan Marsal Family School of Education, with a concentration in Diversity and Social Justice in Higher Education.Throughout his educational journey, Byron has demonstrated his dedication to social justice and anti-racism. He holds several associate's degrees from Henry Ford College, a Justice Law certificate from Harvard (2020), and a B.S. degree from Ferris State University (2021).Beyond his academic pursuits, Byron, also known as "MoSoul," is a multi-talented individual. He is a poet, musician, social entrepreneur, Proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. , and author. Byron's work within higher education focuses on promoting anti-racist practices and building a new system written academia centered around Equity, Love, and Justice. He currently serves as the assistant director of the Afro-American Cultural Center at Yale. Driven by the African Proverb Ubuntu, which translates "I am because WE Are," Byron strives daily to uplift and embrace the power of community.
