It is easier writing books than writing stuff about yourself! Who would be interested in that? What do I write....here goes.The Heckles books started some years ago when I told a bedtime story to a granddaughter. She liked it a lot. Over time I would scratch out a few sentences on the bus ride to my boring job and eventually the first book evolved.Like an alcoholic I couldn't stop at one, and just kept writing. This was most enjoyable, and I hope that comes through in the books. They are designed to engage and stimulate the imagination of the young reader. Imagining the Heckles; their feelings and how they behave. All in a humorous way.The last paragraph or two of each book provides an entree into the next adventure. While each book can be read as a stand alone work, it is best if they are read in sequence.As a parent reading the same book to my kids drove me crazy. I have tried to subtly put nuanced adult humour in the Heckles stories. Hopefully that will be detected by an adult if read as a bedtime story that may keep both young and old, interested.The books are interactive with simple line drawings that can be coloured by the reader. Also a blank page is provided at the end of each book to encourage a drawing created by the reader to reflect what their imagination has seen. This desire for engagement probably comes from my years as a school teacher.There are 3 more Heckles adventures ready to go. Stay tuned.
