Hi. My name is James DeMarco and I draw the comic strip about a little youth hockey goalie named Small Saves. I’ve been a goaltender since the age of five. When I’m not trying to kick out hockey pucks, I can be found writing and drawing the latest cartoons about Small Saves.Aside for my passion for hockey, I was always amazed by such great cartoons like Peanuts and The Family Circus. I knew that was what I wanted to do when I grew up. It’s funny. I can sit down at the table and say, “Today I’m going to write a new cartoon…” An hour later, and I still have a blank piece of paper. Then, I can be in the middle of a hockey game, diving around, when an idea comes. That’s why I always carry a pen and pad with me. Although I can’t take it onto the ice with me (and trying to write with a blocker on is not easy!) I keep one in my locker room. I was also a professional artist & silk screener for many years. I use my experience in that field to design the many hockey and goalie shirts you see on Small Saves’ website at www.smallsaves.com.
