Author Name
Gordon Williams (Author)
I live in Wales with my wife, plus a cat and a dog, in the Wye Valley on the border with England. From first stirrings of wanting to write at around fifteen I spent my life doing other things, from my trade as a carpenter & joiner, through engineering, farming and scale models, looking forward to the freedom to write full-time. When that time came I wrote two books, THE LIMERENCE OF ALICE ROSSETTI, and UPRIVER. Those books are now unavailable, undergoing editing. The first one will be retitled THE GENTLE RIVER, and will soon be republished along with UPRIVER. Meanwhile, I have published SEVEN SHORT STORIES, available as a paperback from Amazon or as an eBook on Pay What You Want from my website only. The paperbacks can be bought from Amazon or ordered from most bookshops in the UK and abroad.Read more about this authorRead less about this author

This story is about love and obsession, about Alice's struggle to overcome her disappointments and to fulfil her long-held belief in perfect love. It deals with longing, with forgiveness, and with promises kept and broken.

The vivid historical strand running through the story - so vital to Alice - brings to life the ancestors she's proud of and those she would rather forget; the English port of Bristol holds them all and the unblemished life of her hero Captain Phillip Rossetti guides her through the fantasies of her youth to the calamity she is helpless to avoid. This is a literary novel with wide appeal beyond mainstream women's writing, with deep character development and evocative descriptions of Bristol and the Welsh border country, along with a powerful historical element giving depth to the main storyline.
