The above picture is a cameo from a field in the Ashton Court Estate, a beautiful park in the suburbs of Bristol not far from the Clifton Suspension Bridge.Who is B. L. Torsades? He’s a professional who’s worked in three continents. Currently retired, he’s spent the last 20 years writing stories. So what keeps us writers going? Ideas that spill out and electrify you. Characters you come to love and feel for. Wondering what will happen to them… as stories often throw you a curveball and take on a life of their own. A sense of total involvement, and a feeling of joy and accomplishment when the last page is completed. Catharsis, as inner turmoil is eased and gentled by the outpouring of words. It can be a long journey! If my writing has managed to achieve anything, I'd like to think that I'm able to create intense and visceral imagery that will stay in the readers' minds for a long time.My Deserter story, the first to find a true home on Amazon, took 13 years to sort out. It’s not really a war story, but novels these days have to be pigeonholed and categorised for commercial and marketing purposes. So it's really a combination of war, adventure, romance (which can be steamy), tragedy -- and the love between a father and daughter that crystallises when the world seems to be falling apart. The next two stories are romances, conceived together 18 years ago and worked over many times since. They’re not M&B clones or bodice rippers but there’s lyricism and emotional intensity there in spades. One is a gentle cross-cultural romance, with just a hint of the supernatural to colour the imagination. The other is essentially a portrait of a shy, introverted lady, a single mum who loves wild flowers (as do I) and hides herself away until a male Adonis (irony intended) loses his frisbee in her back garden. Two more eBooks can be added to the list: one is a collection of stories of multiple genres, the centrepin of which is a novella that describes the chaos that overtakes a mission hospital in pre-independence Africa when a murderous local chief decides he need treatment for his haemorrhoids. The other is a crime story set in the English Peak District, (not a DCI procedural type of story), where a rich gangster living covertly in a fine country house is tracked down by an undercover policewoman and a young man seeking revenge.I’ve fitted plenty of interests into the last 60 years. I played rugby until I got too old for it (three day recovery time), and love trail running, rock climbing and hiking. I play piano and listen to a lot of music, primarily classical, often old prog, but anything that touches me will fit the bill. Read more about this authorRead less about this author
