Author Name
Diane Jane Ball (Author)
Diane Jane Ball is the first-time author of 'The Austens of Steventon', inspired by a visit she made to Jane Austen’s House in Chawton. She became curious about the friendship between Jane Austen and Martha Lloyd, who lived with her. On finding out more, Diane soon realised that another family, the Fowles of Kintbury, was equally important to both women too.Diane created this family saga to show how closely the three families were bound together. Based on facts and information gleaned from Austen family memoirs and biographies, Diane takes up the story from the marriage of Mr and Mrs Austen and follows the lives of Jane and her siblings as they grow up in Steventon and beyond. 'The Austens of Steventon' is the first novel in a series of three. Diane is currently working on the second, 'The Austens of Bath', to be followed soon after by 'The Austens of Chawton'.Diane’s own life is one of contrasts. She splits her time between writing her sequels in the historical world of Georgian England, and being an English teacher, where she embraces 21st century technology to deliver lessons to her students online. Read more about this authorRead less about this author

Jane Austen was not born famous. It was not until she reached the age of thirty-five that she saw her first novel in print, and she died six years later completely unaware of the legacy she was to leave behind.

This story takes place long before that when Jane was a young girl growing up in a large family. Opening with her parents’ wedding in 1764, the narrative follows Mr and Mrs Austen to their first home in Deane and then on to Steventon.

You will bear witness to the births of all eight of their children and discover the individual life stories of them all, as well as their relatives and their friends. This was the time of American Independence and the French Revolutionary Wars and you will see how these international affairs affected even the smallest of rural communities.

Based upon true historical facts, the timeline of the novel follows the same run of events as recorded in letters, memoirs, and ancestral records. The Austens of Steventon brings the entire family to life like no other work has before.
