Palliative care practitioners may seize the opportunity to encourage patients to find meaning in suffering as they face inevitable death. The meaning-making process can be generative for patients' feelings of anxiety, guilt, or hopelessness that seem punishing and unrelenting at the end of life and can be transformed into ways of actively exploring the relationship with self and others.
