Patrick has a bachelor’s degree in History from Loyola University, holds a Public Insurance Adjuster License, is a published author, and owns a successful e-commerce business.His foray into writing and publishing books started with finding old letters in his mother-in-laws attic that were written in the 1850's. These letters were written by a relative who happened to be on Commodore Perry's Expedition to Japan. It soon became clear that they held immense historical significance and needed publishing. A four year journey of transcription and analysis resulted in the book titled "To my Dearest Lide: Letters from George B. Gideon Jr. during Commodore Perry’s Expedition to Japan, 1853–1855" being published by the University of Alabama Press. A great sense of satisfaction resulted in the publication of this book. It is rare to actually publish something that has a new and unique perspective about a period in history that has been widely studied. Scholars have verified the letters and have found new insights within the letters that were previously unknown and have changed long standing thoughts on certain issues known to happened during the Expedition.His second book "Texas Hold'em Uncovered" was also many years in the making and was based off of lessons learned from a 35+ year career of playing poker. The idea was to provide an instructional manual for the new or amateur player that was written as if were the instruction for a typical family board game. Instructional manuals of this sort are free from opinions, give the basics, and provide some advanced strategy to win the game whereas, typical poker books are full of over complicated hand recaps, and bad beat stories that do little more than fill pages and feed ego's. Texas Hold'em Uncovered does none of that and provides a clear and concise narrative that explains all facets of the game. Simply put, this book is bare knuckles theory and strategy with no commentary. Patrick's third and fourth books known as "Fantastic Factoids for the Insanely Curious Volumes 1 and 2" were the result of having purchased a book called "Interesting Facts for Curious Minds" and realizing that with a little more discretion on which facts to include and the addition of illustrations that a better book could be produced that is actually educational. These books were extremely fun to put together and the reviews have been fantastic (no pun intended). Since the books are historical and educational in nature they pair well with his first book but also offer an opportunity to for readers interested in historical factoids to search through different chapters at random without fear of losing one's place or the feeling of guilt for having purchased a book but never finishing reading. This series is a good beach book, road trip book, coffee table book and is designed to be fun lite reading and educational.Future books in progress include volumes 3 and 4 of the Fantastic Factoids series. Volume 3 will be about "150 Iconic Figures of Our Time" and was designed as concise biographies of people whose contributions or legacies have transcended history and continue to remain influential. Volume 4 will be about "Proverbidioms" or the origins of everyday sayings and their historical significance such as "The grass is always greener on the other side" or "A bird in hand is worth two in the bush". In addition to the above, Patrick has also written a series of Children's Books under the pen name "Uncle Gek" which were written using a rhyming style to promote language awareness in 2 to 6 year old children.
