I founded The Antiracism Academy to help parents and teachers learn and teach their kids about race and racism, with the goal of helping to raise the next generation of antiracist leaders. What started as an idea grew into a YouTube channel, a full-service diversity, equity and inclusion firm, and now a series of antiracist children’s books. As a Black woman from a low-income background, I’ve experienced marginalization firsthand. But I’ve also had the privilege of earning a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Yale University, a master’s of science degree in Education from the University of Pennsylvania, and a juris doctor degree from Columbia Law School. Before becoming an entrepreneur and children’s book author, I served as a secondary English and Social Studies teacher at Sankofa Freedom Academy Charter School, where I was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2013 and was a semifinalist for the Sue Lehmann Excellence in Teacher Leadership Award.As a law student, I served on the editorial board of the Columbia Journal of Race and Law and as an early education legal policy consultant for the Center for Public Research and Leadership. As a corporate attorney, I applied my leadership around diversity, equity and inclusion, serving as the Chair of the Diverse Associates Group at an international law firm. I also served as an Associate Counsel at Comcast, where I advised the company on a range of legal matters, including issues of racial equity.I bring over 15 years of experience developing and facilitating diversity, equity and inclusion workshops and training sessions for schools, corporations, non-profits, and government organizations. I’ve devoted my entire adult life to studying, teaching and helping individuals and organizations better understand and problem solve around issues related to race, gender and other historically marginalized identities.
