Author Name
Ian Palmer (Author)
Ian Palmer was born in the upstairs front bedroom of a semi-detached house in semi-rural Staffordshire on 2nd January 1967. After a happy childhood, made up mostly of playing football on the playground at school, playing football in the street, playing football down the field, taking part in bicycle races (winner of the '20 Laps Around the Block in Ford Way, Summer 1977' event), reading through the pages of Look-In, Smash Hits and Shoot!, taping pop songs off the radio, watching TV and going to the Armitage Youth Club Disco (held every other Wednesday, admission 15p), Ian embarked on a career working in the sales office at the 'Pot Bank' - the local toilet manufacturer. In later years Ian turned to writing, penning the novellas: 'Diary of a Sales Rep' and 'Tiswas and Tanktops'. During the Covid lock-down of 2020-2021, Ian began compiling a list of historical events from the decade of his boyhood (mainly: news, football, TV, cinema, cars, girls and pop music) and such was formed the chronicle, 'A Diary of England in the 1970s' - a book designed to take the reader back in time to the wonderful days of glam rock, strikes, football hooligans, Ford Cortina MKIIIs, Showaddywaddy, Sodastreams, Swap Shop and Hubba Bubba. Further painstaking research and rigorous information gathering has since taken place, and a follow-up book from Ian, 'A Diary of England in the 1980s', was published in early 2023.The prequel, 'Take Me Back in Time to the 1960s' was released shortly afterwards and then came a pre-prequel, 'Take Me Back in Time to the 1950s'.It's anticipated that a pre-pre-prequel, 'Take Me Back in Time to the 1940s', will follow shortly.Read more about this authorRead less about this author
