After graduating from high school I informed my dad that I was tired of getting up early, tired of making my bed and tired of taking orders so I had joined the Marines. He just smiled at me. I spent 4 years on active duty, including 13 months in Vietnam. Honorably discharged as a sergeant. I joined the Indianapolis Police Department. Did all the usual stuff a street cop does in a big city. Became a SCUBA diver, hostage negotiator, homicide detective and worked undercover as an outlaw biker. They made me a sergeant again. Retired from IPD after 32 years and opened a private detective agency. Lots of interesting cases including one in Spain. After 8 years as a PI I was offered a one year contract as a LEP (Law Enforcement Professional) embedded with a USMC infantry battalion with deployment to Iraq. Our battalion deployed in 2009, I worked in Intelligence, and we returned to CONUS 2010. Ten days after I got back I was offered a second deployment, this time to Afghanistan. However, my wife thought 2 wars in one lifetime was enough. Offered a position with the Marion County (Indiana) Sheriff's Office as a detective. They made me a sergeant again. After almost 3 years there I was selected as the chief of police of a small town south of Indianapolis. Spent 6 years as chief then returned to the sheriff's office as a detective for a couple more years. As a sergeant of course. By then my back hurt, my feet hurt and the hair on my head began to detour and grow out of other places so I retired, pretended to be an author, and wrote a book.
