Omer Ertur was born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey. He received his education in the United States. He was professor of community and regional planning at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, and has lectured at various universities worldwide. As a planning and development professional, he worked with the United Nations and various international organizations, serving in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa. In 1999, while working for the United Nations in Kosovo, he prepared the groundwork for his first book based on his grandparents’ life in Kosovo and published it under the title “Soul Mates”. In addition to various academic publications, he has completed three historical novels: Farewell to Kosovo; A Prelude to Gallipoli; and Bones in the Nile. Presently he is working on a historical novel about the Ottoman Frigate Ertugrul’s dramatic journey to Japan in 1889.
