Jack (a.k.a. John) Dempsey, born in 1955, grew up north of Boston, Mass., USA, took his B.A. in English from UMASS-Amherst, and began freelance writing and editing in New York City. He lived in Crete for 2 of the 15 years it took to complete "Ariadne's Brother: A Novel on the Fall of Bronze Age Crete" (now in Greek translation by Vicky Chatzopoulou), and then he earned his Ph.D. at Brown University (1998) in Native and Early American Studies. Jack Dempsey has published four books and two documentary films in those fields, and new works are available as of September 2010 at his new collaborative website, ANCIENTLIGHTS.ORG. He is also Adjunct Assistant Professor of English and Communications at Bentley University, a Book Editor for Margaret Gee Literary Agency (Sydney, Australia), offers freelance assistance as a writer and editor, lectures in his research fields, and produces public educational events---including the annual May Day honors of Thomas Morton held at Merrymount (Quincy, MA) each year.Read more about this authorRead less about this author
