Miguel Nico Quijano, was born in Manhattan, New York. He was raised in the Bronx, Brooklny, Camden New Jersey and Puerto Rico. His father was Puerto Rican and his mother was Irish. In Puerto Rico he lived in Ponce, Rio Piedras, Tokio, Santurce, Bayamon, Manati, etc. His father and uncles were musicians. He learnt about music from a very early age and was introduced to the arts of Cocobale, Calinda and Cocolembe first from his family, later from the last instructors in Puerto Rico who were very close to his father. He later went on to study from the last teachers of the art "El Juego De Mani". He has been in these arts for nearly 60 years now and keeping the flame going. Teaching and sharing throughout the world in hopes of showing the true authentic arts from both Puerto Rico and Cuba. Miguel has also studied asian martial arts with many well known teachers throughout the world. He has been featured in several martial arts publications throughout the world. He served on the New Jersey State Police Training Commission as an instructor in the academy. He served in the U.S. Army (infantry, airborne, military intelligence and with special forces) where he retired from. After that he was an Oakland Police Officer, working patrol, the violence suppression unit, police defensive tactics, investigations, etc. After that he worked in executive protection for many of the social media CEO's and their families. Later on he worked as an overseas contractor in Africa, etc. He has now returned to the military where he was commissioned as an officer. He has worked in films as an actor, stunt driver, stunt coordinator, fight choreographer, weapons specialist, etc. He has his own film coming out soon, "Ranger" which he wrote, produced, directed and starred in. This film has given many people from all walks of life a chance to be in a film in the community as well as veterans. He is now producing a documentary on the martial arts of Puerto Rico and Cuba. He is planning on several more volumes of books on these arts and others. He lives in Hollister, California with his wife Chau and his dogs, Hero and Porter. He has two grown children, Ariana and Antonio who he is very proud of and are successful in their own lives. Miguel loves traveling and teaching. He has taught all over the U.S. and many parts of the world. He has students in Chicago, New York, Florida, Puerto Rico, New Jersey, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, Atlanta, Washington, etc. He was given a proclamation by the Mayor of Ponce Puerto Rico, Luis Irizarry Pabon, for bringing the arts back to Puerto Rico and for also his family, teachers and himself recognized as the true Gran Maestro's of these arts.
