Sally Kuykendall (pronounced "Kirk-en-dahl") worked as a critical care nurse in Philadelphia and England. Early in her nursing career, she was assigned a patient who was so badly beaten that his facial features were barely recognizable. As she stood and wondered where to start with his care without causing further pain, one question came to mind, 'How could one human being do this to another human being?' Kuykendall returned to school earning degrees in the natural and social sciences. She was one of the early researchers of bullying prevention in the United States and authored multiple research studies on bullying. Her writing combines concepts from medicine, sociology and psychology.
