I was born in the Bronx in 1950. I was exposed in my childhood to the melting pot sounds that could only be found in New York City. I was as influenced by Latin, Disco, Calypso, Rock, R&B, Pop, Country and Western, Jazz and Funk as I was by Broadway Musicals, British Invasion and Cab Calloway. Eclectic became my middle name. After graduating from Hofstra University, I became an English teacher in Hempstead, Long Island. My brother, Stony Browder Jr., started a band named DR. BUZZARD'S ORIGINAL SAVANNAH BAND while I was engaged in pedagogy. He demanded that I abandon my 9 to 5 lifestyle and enter his unpredictable, but very alluring, world of ROCK N' ROLL. The rest is history. Without Stony's badgering, I would never have had the courage to switch lanes so drastically. I owe him a lot.The Savannah Band taught me everything I needed to know about the Music Business. It was a blessing. KID CREOLE AND THE COCONUTS grew out of that profound crash course. I started this band in 1979 (with the able-bodied assistance of Adriana Kaegi, who had escaped from Zurich, Switzerland to settle down in the Big Apple, and Coati Mundi, my Savannah Band partner in crime and rhyme). I had no idea that I was destined to enjoy success around the world for over 40 years. I had no idea then that I would go on to release 15 albums, 7 compilations and 27 singles!
