Dr. Samuel Essah-Hienwo is a knowledgeable academic and a fervent advocate for social reform, dedicated to providing equitable opportunities for minority male students to enhance their retention in the education system.

Born and raised in Ghana, he earned his undergraduate degree in Integrated Rural Arts and Industry from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He later pursued graduate studies at Strayer University, obtaining an MBA in Healthcare Services and a Ph.

D. in Public Policy Administration from Walden University.

With extensive experience in college administration, recruiting, and student retention, Dr. Essah-Hienwo focuses his research on the hidden journey of Black male student success and how educators and institutions can offer better support.

His work is widely cited and recognized for its significant impact on education policy and practice, making him a leading voice in student retention and equity. Dr.

Essah-Hienwo is married to Wendy Essah-Hienwo, a Health Informatics Analyst, and together they have four children: Shantel, Michael Sam, Jesse-Jared, and Jazmine. Committed to promoting educational equity and social change, he continues to be an enthusiastic scholar and advocate in Ghana and beyond.
