Author Name
Jonathan May (Author)
Please check out his website at: http://hollowsquarepress.com/Jonathan May grew up in Sawyerville, Alabama. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English at Birmingham-Southern College and a Masters of Library Science at Columbia University, where he worked first in the Journalism Library and later, after he got his degree, as Government Documents Librarian. He took early retirement from the library world to return to his home in Alabama to write. His first published novel, Rumors of Wolves (2006), was actually the second one he wrote. It was revised and republished in 2013 with the new title A Howling in the Night. Siren Song (2013) was written first, but because of its complexity (of writing, not of reading) it required more review and revision over the years until be was satisfied with it. In addition, he has edited a memoir about the movie business by his late friend Tom Miller (who published under the name Tom Canford) with the title A Fever of the Mad: A Movie Publicist Works with Francis Coppola, Elaine May, John Cassavetes, Peter Falk, and Richard Gere and Survives to Tell the Tale!as well as Baker's Daughter, Miller's Son, a Memoir of the Family of Tom Miller and Norma Miller (both published in 2013). Earlier he had helped Canford edit and publish three of his own novels: Boy at Sea, The Curse of Vilma Valentine, and Ghost Guitars. In addition to his friend Tom, over the years he shared the Sawyerville property with four goats (Clover, Buttercup, Daisy, and Ageratum), two dogs (Huckleberry and Roscoe), and three cats (Catalina, Sibling, and Kitty Witty). Only Jonathan is left alive to tell the tale. In addition to writing, interests include movies, reading, trying to keep the grass cut, and dodging tornadoes in the springtime and hurricanes in the summer and fall.Read more about this authorRead less about this author

The small community of Sawyerville, Alabama and its predecessor communities of Erie and Hollow Square have a long history in the state involving persons White and Black and a mixture of both. In addition to giving the reader some of its history, the author also presents stories of some of the people who lived there or have their origins there.

He meditates upon the past and speculates about the future. It is a community that he cherishes.
