Donna J Benson (Author)
December of 1955, John and Zora Mann, a teacher and stay at home mom welcomed me, Donna Jane, the second of four children. We lived in a small conservative town in California and moved to an almond ranch outside town when I was ten.Music played a big role in my life singing in the church and schools choirs. I received a guitar for my fourteenth birthday and it brought great joy for many years. I wrote songs and lyrics sharing them at nursing homes, special events, and church.Jesus has always been in my life. I can’t remember him not being there, in my heart, mind, and soul. Through my life, he has guided my path. That doesn’t mean I didn’t take detours into the world and away from his best for me, but He has always forgiven my stupidity and led me back to where He wants me to be.My husband, Robert (Bob) and I met at age 16 in Santa Cruz, CA, where we both attended a Christian Youth Conference. This began our lifelong love and friendship. We married eighteen months later and recently celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. Together, we established first home in Phoenix, Arizona. The heat chased us back to California where we built a successful news delivery agency and worked side by side for fifteen yearsAfter nearly five years of marriage, God blessed us with the first of three wonderful children, Joanna, David, and James. Joanna married the love of her life Tafari. David has a lovely wife, Shawna and two children, Corban and Peyton. James has yet to find his life long love, but we hope God will bring her into his life. We’ve had the blessing of having several other young people who became part of our family through the years as well. We are proud to claim Amanda and Lucas as children of our hearts.Wanting a slower pace and more time with our children, we moved to the Flathead Valley in Montana. We purchased a greenhouse nursery and learned a great deal about seeding, growing, and propagating plants. After several years of struggling, we lost the business. It was a horrible blow. At first I blamed God, but realized He put road blocks up to warn us not to purchase the business. Unfortunately, we ignored them. Bob got his CDL and went on the road. I joined him a year later having received my CDL as well. We have been driving a team ever since. During the past twenty-five years of driving, we have traveled to every state in the continental United States and nearly every Canadian province as well. Visiting with people and learning about the different regions of the country has been enlightening. Many do not like the direction our nation is currently headed, others blissfully ignore what they feel they cannot change or care little about. Regardless of the state of the nation, most people love our country and want to preserve our US Constitution, Bill of Rights, liberty and freedom.Through our life, Bob and I have grown closer to Father God. Great teaching, answers to prayer, and the vision to prepare for evil times ahead lead me to write the ‘Flee to the Mountains’ fictional series. I began writing first book in the series Sanctuary Ranch in 2010. The words flowed like a movie come to life on paper. I joined the Christian Writers Association and several small writers groups to help me find my style and develop better skills. Being part of an editing group forced me to look more critically at my work and that of others. The Flee to the Mountains books gave me the ability to honor Father God, promote salvation in Jesus Christ, and encourage people to prepare for whatever might be ahead. I tried to incorporate things a person needs to do to prepare. Physical things like food storage, purchasing heirloom seeds, canning supplies, how to books and the like are tangible items a person can use good times or bad. The spiritual preparation is equally important. Bob and I serve the Lord Jesus Christ. Throughout the Flee to the Mountain series, I share my heart and hope the reader can see Father God for who He really is…a loving, kind, long-suffering creator. Many blame Him for every ill that comes about in their life. Yet, He is not the author of our struggles, hurts, illness or injuries. He loves us too much. To believe He would harm us is misaligning his character. It’s my hope these books will convey that truth. We do not know what the future hold, but we do know the world is getting worse everyday. If even one person reads ‘Flee to the Mountains’ and comes to accept Jesus as Savior, if it helps someone to understand Father God better, or spurs someone to prepare for difficult times, I will consider this series a huge success.
