Elaine Parker Adams is a retired Houston Community College System (HCCS) educator. She is the Founding President of HCC-Northeast College. Prior to her work with HCC she served the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board as Assistant Commissioner for Educational Opportunity Planning. Since retirement, Adams focuses on writing about African American history and social justice issues. Lowku, a form of haiku, is one of her media forms. She has written and published haiku/lowku since the 1990s. In 2017, Adams released her first volume of poetry—Haiku Bouillabaisse. Her most recent book of poetry is Hurricane Harvey Lowku, a book about her experiences during Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath. Not limited to poetry, Adams authored in 2013 The Reverend Peter W. Clark: Sweet Preacher and Steadfast Reformer, a Louisiana Library Association Notable Louisiana Book. This book is the biography of her great grandfather. Earlier, she co-edited Media and the Young Adult for the American Library Association. Adams is an avid genealogist and community volunteer. She coordinates the citizenship test preparation program for Ashford United Methodist Church.
