The transatlantic slave trade from West Africa into the Caribbean and the wider Americas was one of the worst mass human atrocities on record. It is undeniable.

Now, centuries after, the process of atonement and resolution is slowly grinding to a point of broad tacit recognition of that reality on the part of the European powers, especially Britain, and the clock is ticking away at the timeline for full resolution and compensation for the gross degradation of chattel slavery that reduced equal human beings to the standing of mere animals. As this publication so compellingly makes clear, Britain needs to not only fully accept responsibility for the horrible reality of its central leadership role in the slave system, but also seek forgiveness from, andnegotiate a process of compensation with, the descendants of the slave population in the Caribbean.

There is no other way out. Britain needs to pay what is owed to us, to allow for the historically repugnant stigma of the slave system to be gradually erasedfrom the minds of the Caribbean people and, indeed, the world at large.

Plain and simple: The stench has been too much over far too long, and the time has definitely come. .

. Reparation is the only decent, responsible and conscientious way out for Britain.
