Author Name
David Evans (Author)
David Evans was born and raised in Franklin Park, IL, ten miles from Wrigley Field. His father grew up on the south side of Chicago. He was a devoted White Sox’s fan. He still allowed David to watch the Cubs. However, they only went to Comisky Park. Comisky Park was built in 1910. When built, it was the third concrete-and steel stadium built since 1909. As a young child the stadium looked old. In the mid-60’s he took David to Wrigley Field for the first time. Like Comisky Park, it was old. It was built in 1914. Now it is the second oldest park in the majors. David was not impressed until he went to the bleachers and saw the ivy walls and the magnificent scoreboard. He will never forget that day. His biggest disappointment came in 1969. The Cubs had one of the greatest lineups in baseball history. Earnie Banks, Billy Williams, Ron Santo, and Fergie Jenkins. The Cubs spent 155 days in first place. The turning point came on September 9th. Coming into the game with the New York Mets, the Cubs were in first place with a record of 84-57, the finished with a record of 92-70. On this day the Cubs experienced the “Black Cat Curse” with Ron Santo in the on deck circle a black cate walked behind him and in front of the Cubs dugout. This broke his heart. In 2012, he moved to Saint Louis and was surrounded by Cardinal fans. He decided to write this book. He wanted his friends to understand that before 1945, before the Goat Curse, the Cubs were a great team, at one time. In 1945 The Cubs won their tenth pennant. At this time the Cardinals had won eight. Since 1945 The Cardinals have won 21 pennants, the Cubs have won one. He wanted everything to understand THE GOAT DID IT!Read more about this authorRead less about this author

Taking a unique approach which combines sociolinguistics with theoretical linguistics, this book presents a view of language and grammar as both a cognitive and socio-cultural phenomena. Beginning with Bakhtin's theories of conceptual grammar and lexico-grammar, this book encompasses a broad philosophical range, engaging with the ideas of key figures such as Bergson, Chomsky, Derrida and Wittgenstein.

Drawing on their work, it investigates how language progresses from an inner reflection of the rational mind to develop social and ideological aspects as it interacts with culture. In doing so, it shows how identity is unitary and rational at the linguistic core whilst multiple social identities are simultaneously shaped by linguistic differences at the cultural peripheries.

Encompassing theoretical linguistics, cognitive linguistics, discourse analysis, multilingualism, sociolinguistics and semiotics, Rationality and Interpretation demonstrates how the different branches of linguistics can complement each other and highlights the socio-cultural influences of language development, as well as how language development is shaped by those influences. .
