Author Name
Charles A Lee (Author)
Having served sixty years in the ministry, Charles A. Lee took up the writing of novels at 81 years of age. Abigail’s Diaries: The Story of a Photograph, is the second of these, with three others completed and one “in the oven.” He holds the Bachelor of Arts from Cincinnati Bible College, the Master of Arts from Cincinnati Christian Seminary, and the Ph.D. from Trinity Theological Seminary. His education has included additional studies at The Ohio State University, The University of Kentucky, The University of Connecticut Graduate School, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Lee married Annette M. Stall in 1963, and he refers to her as “the love of my life” to this day. The Lees have two sons, five grandchildren, and one great-grandson. They have lived in Louisville, Kentucky, since 1980, and in Buffalo, New York, from 1970 to 1979. Dr. Lee has served both in pastoral and educational ministries. He was minister of four different churches, three in Ohio and one in Buffalo. He served as Minister of Adult Education at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville for twenty years. He was president of New York Christian Institute and is Professor Emeritus of Louisville Bible College. In the 1960’s, Dr. Lee was Academic Dean for The College of the Scriptures in Louisville, a school committed to serving the African American community during what is called the Civil Rights Movement. From his youth, he has been acutely aware of the need for America to turn from racial prejudice and commit to the Biblical admonition to embrace all people as the children of God. He conveys this commitment in several of his books with contemporary stories that will grip the reader while at the same time capture the struggle of the 19th and 20th century with the evil of slavery. Rachel Dudley and Jonathan Billows were in love and about to be married when the Civil War broke out in 1861. Jonathan, who owned a successful business in Chicago, joined the Union Army and was blinded and lost a leg when Confederate artillery attacked his position.

Because there was no room for him in the military hospital, he was medically quartered in the home of a middle-aged widow who had lost her husband in the war. The story grows when the widow begins reading Rachel’s letters to Jonathan and writing his replies for him.

The drama then expands when a runaway slave seeks asylum at the widow’s farm at almost the same time a Union soldier asks for protection from the army for an alleged act of cowardice. A situation involving wilderness survival that includes an encounter with a huge bear leads to a surprise ending to the story.
