Karl Schonborn has earned a living using his voice, even though he once spoke in a nasal and snuffly manner as cleft-palates like him often do. Besides narrating documentaries, he’s lectured and spoken to 1000s of students in his career as a university professor in the San Francisco Bay Area. His teaching and community service focused on ways to make policing more humanitarian and less authoritarian. This goal, along with another–to reduce the biases of courts and corrections–helped motivate him to write his latest book, PRIVILEGED KILLERS.Over the years, Schonborn has researched criminals, police officers, and the organizational behavior of institutions such as jails, prisons, and police departments. He’s published his insights and findings in articles and several widely-read books.As a product of three Ivies–Yale, Columbia, Penn–and as one who studies violence, you might expect Schonborn to be one serious dude.
