Author Name
Karl Schonborn (Author)
Karl Schonborn has earned a living using his voice, even though he once spoke in a nasal and snuffly manner as cleft-palates like him often do. Besides narrating documentaries, he’s lectured and spoken to 1000s of students in his career as a university professor in the San Francisco Bay Area. His teaching and community service focused on ways to make policing more humanitarian and less authoritarian. This goal, along with another–to reduce the biases of courts and corrections–helped motivate him to write his latest book, PRIVILEGED KILLERS.Over the years, Schonborn has researched criminals, police officers, and the organizational behavior of institutions such as jails, prisons, and police departments. He’s published his insights and findings in articles and several widely-read books. As a product of three Ivies–Yale, Columbia, Penn–and as one who studies violence, you might expect Schonborn to be one serious dude. However, his students and family unfortunately understand too well his urge to be a stand-up comic in his next life. Read more about this authorRead less about this author

A TRUE STORYPrivileged Killers: and Sociopaths Who Live and Walk among UsCriminologist Karl Schonborn, who studies how authorities respond to violence, is well acquainted with privileged killers. This classic true-crime work focuses on his experiences with several sociopathic individuals.

Four of them, ironically white males, committed monstrous violent crimes. And because each of them was privileged – blessed with brilliance, wealth, talent, or charm – Lady Justice only slapped their wrists despite their homicidal attacks.

What’s shocking is these killers seemingly appeared from nowhere in Schonborn’s everyday life, and each helped erode his long-standing criminal-justice idealism. Professor Schonborn details his interactions with these highly disturbed men, including how a brush with one on parole nearly cost him his life.

Schonborn’s in-depth training in psychology helps him provide us with useful insights about identifying and dealing with the burgeoning numbers of sociopaths who work and live among us. .
