Os óleos essenciais de materiais vegetais secos e em pó foram isolados por hidrodestilação utilizando um aparelho do tipo Clevenger. Foram identificados e quantificados 55 componentes nos três óleos essenciais isolados das flores, das folhas e da planta inteira de Mentha.
O componente mais abundante nos três óleos foi o mentol, com 35,64%, 32,47% e 52,53%, respetivamente. A atividade antioxidante do óleo essencial de toda a planta de Mentha foi determinada contra o radical ABTS.
A atividade antimicrobiana do óleo essencial isolado da planta inteira de Mentha foi determinada contra Escherichia coli e Candida albicans. .
