Author Name
Tricia Brown (Author)
Tricia Brown is an author, editor, and book developer in Alaska. She has written nearly thirty titles, among them a dozen children's picture books, most of them on Alaska subjects. Tricia first moved north to Alaska from the Chicago area in 1978. For the next twenty-one years, she wandered the state and wrote for newspapers in Fairbanks and Anchorage, before joining the staff of Alaska magazine. She entered book publishing in the late 1990s with a book titled "Iditarod Country: Exploring the Route of the Last Great Race." That year, too, her first children's book was released to national acclaim: "Children of the Midnight Sun." In 1999, Tricia accepted a position as acquisitions editor for a Portland-area publishing company, a job that took her outside of Alaska. She continued to specialize in Alaska subject matter and has been back in Anchorage since 2015.Tricia's editing credits include dozens of print and/or enhanced e-books on dog mushing, Alaska Native cultures, Alaska history and travel, and the frontier lifestyle. In addition, national publishers have asked her to help develop their books on gardening, self-help, autobiography, and more. She is a popular speaker in schools, libraries, and events in Alaska as well as the Lower 48. Her multi-media presentations, which include lessons on Alaska natural history and cultures, regularly receive high praise from educators and parents. She loves to get kids excited about reading, writing, and art. Tricia welcomes invitations from schools and libraries anywhere in the country. In 1929, Patsy Ann arrived in Juneau, Alaska, with an independent streak as big as the territory. TheEnglish bull terrier cycled through a couple of households, running away each time, making itclear that she was nobody's dog.

She was everybody's dog. Meet the canine free spiritwho went from tethered pet to official town greeter at the docks, meeting every ship that came to portfor all of the 1930s.

Although she was impaired, somehow Patsy Ann knew whenever a ship was coming. A bronze statue of Patsy Ann stands at the docks today, still looking up the channel for the next arrival.
