Author Name
Richard P. Sinay (Author)
Richard Sinay was a high school and college English and reading teacher for schools in Orange County, California, for thirty-five years. In his retirement, he spends most of his time playing golf, reading, and writing. He has five publications: Who We Met on the Way to Stanford: A Father’s Memoir, the story of who he and his son met in the golf world. Fittingly, the book How to Get a Golf Scholarship to Stanford: A Parent’s Guide is intended for those parents who want to see their golfer play for Stanford. His subsequent publication, Observations of America and My Ancestral Past: An Epistolary Autobiography, is a daily account of a twenty-five thousand-mile trip around the country. Recently, a new publication, Crazy Little Children Are Jangling the Keys of the Kingdom: The Estrangement Epidemic in America, was published. It is an examination of the estrangement epidemic in America. Finally, Confessions of an English Teacher: A Memoir of My Teaching Years is the first of his books about teaching English in California high schools and community colleges. He resides in Palm Desert, California, with his wife, Tina. Read more about this authorRead less about this author

Why is America so divided? What is the origin of this problem? I try to answer that question when I wrote the book. The book is a day-to-day writing about events in a person’s life—my observations of America during a twenty-five thousand-mile trip around the country.

My trip started in Indio, California, took along the South to the Southeast, then to the Northeast, then back along a Northern route to the Midwest, the Northwest, and then full circle back home. The trip was intended to do three things: allow me to check off some of my bucket list items, meet with my first cousins to present information about the origin of our grandparents, and explore those places I always wanted to see as a teacher of American Literature and history.

During that time I come to realize that our history engendered that division. The book demonstrates how I came to discover that.
