Lester Louis Gartland (Born May 6th 1990) Is a British writer who has published personal essays, a collection of short stories (Deroceras: The Dream of a Nation), and his debut novel A Hake's Tail: A Psychedelic Tale of Apathy.Gartland is currently working on his second novel, Custodian Angel.Born and raised in Woking, Surrey, Gartland began his creative writing journey by writing contemporary music. After his father died, Gartland moved to Brighton to study music at a degree level and wrote music and lyrics for various local projects. After some mild success, and the suicide of one of his bandmates, Gartland turned his hand from poetry to prose. Inspired by his literary heroes: Franz Kafka, Hermann Hesse, and Kurt Vonnegut, he began writing short stories which abstractly and detail the impacts of bereavement. Gartland continued writing and developing his style to create a unique blend of tragedy and social satire which is apparent in his first novel (A Hake's Tail) which he completed in 2022.Gartland is currently working on a light sequel to this novel based on themes of addiction, isolation, the absurd practices of pseudo-religious cults, and a more comedic take on reincarnation.Read more about this authorRead less about this author
